Who is Willy?
Willy is a Schnauzeranian who enjoys travelling and participating in various activities, including dog agility, river rafting, boogie boarding, singing and acting. I hope you'll enjoy reading all about his adventures and finding out how much fun a dog's life can be.
What's a Schnauzeranian? Well, Willy's mom was a Pomeranian and his dad was a Mini-Schnauzer. This is what I was told by the little girls who were walking five little 5 1/2 week old puppies on the beach on Topsail Island, North Carolina when I first encountered the puppy who stole my heart. The little girls said they had to give him away. I couldn't let him go so he became my puppy right then and there. He was black with a little white, he was on the beach, and he was "free." So his name became "Free Willy" or Willy for short.
Willy is an agility dog and an actor. When he was only a year old, he was in a TV show which was only shown in Canada but was filmed in Wilmington, NC. It was called "Creepy Canada." I was asked by the director if he could break away from me while walking him in a cemetery and go digging and scratching at a grave. I said, "If you had some crab and buried it there, he would." So the director sent people out to get crab legs and tuna. We buried it at the grave. And, sure enough, Willy did exactly what they wanted!
Soon after that, when we went home to Connecticut, Willy started taking agility classes. He had so much energy and spunk; I knew that dog agility would be something that would be right up his alley.
Willy's Favorite Activities
Dog Agility
What is dog agility? It's a sport in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. It is a fairly new sport, started in 1978 in the United Kingdom. Below is a little video clip of Willy going through his paces at a trial.
River Rafting
Willy summers in Unionville, Connecticut where he lives on the Farmington River. He loves river rafting down the rapids with his owner. Sometimes he jumps out to chase the ducks.
Crab Hunting
When Willy is on Topsail Island, NC in the spring, fall and winter, he loves to hunt for crabs in between boogie boarding and taking long walks on the beach. Of course he also likes to just sit on the deck and soak up the rays while keeping watch over the ocean for dolphin.
Beaching it in Connecticut in the summer
Willy likes to frequent Hammonassett State Park in Madison Connecticut and Misquamicut Beach in Rhode Island in the summer.
Boogie Boarding
Willy loves boogie boarding when he's on Topsail Island. He couldn't stand watching his owner having all the fun by herself so one day he swam out to meet her and hopped on the board. Now whenever the board comes out, Willy is jumping up and down in anticipation of riding the perfect wave! Hopefully, we'll get some video of Willy boogie boarding soon.
