Willy was Lost!

But now he's found!

Just recently Willy was lost.  He escaped from his fenced yard when his owner wasn't looking.  He lives across the street from the Farmington River (his favorite place to visit when he's home in Unionville). So when Willy saw the gate open, he made a mad dash to the river. Unfortunately, he was hit by a car while trying to return home.  But the good news is, he was found a very long 24 hours later!  He sustained a very bad laceration to his thigh. The outer muscle was totally damaged and some of his inner muscle.  But he was taken directly to the animal hospital where he was operated on for several hours to repair the damage done to his leg.  Everyone is hoping that he'll be able to return to the agility circuit by the end of the summer.  He's progressing by "leaps and bounds" every day.

The Hartford Courant has recently started a new category on their website for missing pets. Willy was their inspiration to start this service.  There are so many people who lose their beloved pets every day.  Hopefully, the Hartford Courant's "lost and found pets" section on their website will help to reunite missing or lost beloved pets and their owners.  Read more about Willy's "lost adventure" on the Hartford Courant here...

On the road to recovery

Willy's on the road to recovery.  Here's hoping he stays off the roads with the vehicles.  He got his 28 stitches removed the other day.  It looks like he may just be able to get back into his favorite sport, dog agility, sooner than anyone would have anticipated.  Hopefully, he'll back to enjoying pool time very soon with his cousin, Emmett (see picture above).  Below is what his hind leg looked like with tubes and stitches.  It wasn't a pretty sight. But I'll take that over not getting him back at all.

Everyone is so happy that Willy didn't end up at the "stray bar!"
